**RUSH**

* * *

Daniel paced impatiently back and forth on the sidewalk in front of his building, getting strange look from the people that passed by. The neighbor lady from the second floor was even glaring out her window, looking at him like he was a serial killer or something.

_Didn't they know that he was having a major crisis right now? And this was his fault._

_He looked down at his watch. Where was that damn town car? At this rate, he should have taken a cab to the airport. As it was, if he left right now, he was going to be down to the wire. If the car didn't get here in the next five minutes, he was going to miss her all together._

_And…she would be gone on her way to London to begn her new life. _

He never got a change to say good bye.

_Okay! That would be a lie._

Every chance he had he wasted selfishly, thinking only of his own pain. Instead, he should have been supporting her and encouraging her, just like he did when she used to be his assistant.

_Why did he tell her he had to be in a meeting? That was a lie too._

Daniel couldn't let a lie be the last words he told her. Betty deserved the truth.

_And now that Daniel knew the truth._ _He just needed another chance to tell her why he couldn't tell her good bye. The truth that had been hiding in his heart for a really long time._

He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket, dialing for his driver, James. With each ring, Daniel prayed harder and harder that he would pick up and tell him that he was just around the corner.

Finally, he heard him answer on the other end of the line.

"James, where are you?"

"I'm on the way back from the airport."

"The airport?" said Daniel. "What are you doing at the airport?" Before his driver even answered, he knew the answer. His mother must had sent the car for Betty to go to the airport.

"Dropping Ms. Suarez off," said James. "I'll be there soon."

Daniel realized there would be no dramatic airport or curbside good-bye. "Never mind. I just realized I don't have anywhere important that I need to be. Thanks."

He disconnected the call and realized that now; he really did have to let her go.

_His chance was gone. She was gone._
